The HK system in our GLA is very disappointing. It's bass is not very deep, and vocals sound like a tin can. Treble is okay at best. The system sounds slightly better with the Logic 7 turned off. Our Mini Countryman also a HK system but sounds much better and worth the extra money.

I had the premium sound system in my F10 ( with upgraded speakers, equilizer, etc.) and this system is significantly better. Sent from my SM-G935P using Bimmerfest mobile app. 2018 540i MSport.
The BMW X3 Harman Kardon system and BMW X5 Harman Kardon system both also add extra rear speakers, but put them in the D-pillar instead of the shelf. That means more speakers and a more immersive sound with the factory stereo, as well as an easier upgrade route when it comes time to swap the stock speakers out.
About £400 ish for the Bimmertech ones - that's what I'm going to go for. There's probably a big reason for that - the F30 HK was 600W, but the G20 is only 464W. That will definitely make a material difference in overall system output. Appreciate 0.

Honestly if sound is that important I’d spend the 3-5k to get something nice professionally installed. This is probably really subjective but my first 3 BMWs had base audio systems, and it was pretty decent compared to non luxury brands, including vw. Harman Kardon sounds better, and it is noticable.
I have the Alpine in the Ram. Wifes durango has the Beats. IMO HK/Beats are better in the bass department. Alpine isn't that far off though. Sound quality though, maybe my ears aren't as intune as others but all 3 are fine. Was fine with not spending more for the HK system.
